John's Story

Thanks to the support of our donors, the Hualālai ‘Ohana Foundation is able to direct emergent medical financial assistance to the families of Hualālai Resort’s workforce in times of serious medical need. Families like John Palos’, a 14 year veteran employee and landscape manager at the Four Seasons Hualālai. In his free time he’s also a professional musician, a softball coach and a proud dad.

John didn’t just hear about the impacts your gifts have on the lives of Hualālai’s workforce, he witnessed it firsthand.

When John’s wife suffered life-threatening complications after undergoing a bariatric surgery that caused her body to shut down, he feared he wouldn’t be able to pay medical bills while continuing to provide for his daughter Chesney.

The generosity and aloha of our donors made it possible for John to access financial assistance.

"Hualālai to me is almost like an extended ‘ohana- we're all close. You know, we treat each other like family. The ‘Ohana Foundation to me is, is just a blessing. They set things up for us, they paid for the housing, they gave us a per diem to help with meals and help with transportation. And the medical costs over the years were just enormous and it was helpful to think that I didn’t have to worry about the financial part of Bonnie's Care, but I could really focus on her care." - John
