The Hualalai 'Ohana Scholars award is a competitive scholarship designed for first generation college students who plan to attend a college or university here in Hawai'i.
Awards are provided to assist full-time and part-time (more than 20 hours per week) employees and their immediate family (spouse, dependents) after six months of employment. Students must be children of Hualalai Resort employees, contractors, vendors, service providers or hotel employees. Dependent age cap is 24 years old. Applicants are required to complete an EE verification form and submit with all applications. Household income cap is $230,000 per year combined. These awards open in January and close in April of each year.

The Hualālai ‘Ohana Scholars Award for first-generation students (e.g. the first in a family to go to college) is a need-based award providing financial and academic support for high school graduates pursuing an undergraduate degree at a university or vocational school within the State of Hawai'i. Renewable for a total of eight semesters (four years) of funding and based on academic standing, participation in program events and activities and community service projects. GPA of 3.0 to qualify.

She has worked hard in her academics and taking this leap to go to college and pursue a degree and a career is a huge change for her. It will bring her out of her comfort zone and into new experiences. She is thankful for this opportunity to find her passion throughout this journey through college. She says this will be a journey that will continue throughout her life, even after college.
