The Hālau Lamakū Summer enrichment program invites keiki to embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure to discover the wonders of Kalaemanō!
Exclusively for Hualālai Resort employees' children in grades K-5.
Coordinated in partnership with 'Imiloa's Hālau Lamakū Program and the Kalaemano Interpretive Center, this 'aina based summer enrichment camp welcomes keiki who are entering Grades 1 through Grade 6 from 8am to 3pm Monday-Friday.
Session 1 will be held July 14-18 (24 spots available)
Session 2 will be held July 21-25 (24 spots available)
Our 2025 theme will be "Hawai'i Shores."
Offered over two identical weeks, this exciting program blends hands-on activities, creative art projects, and interactive games, all designed to help children explore the unique plants, animals, and cultural traditions that make Kalaemanō so special. Keiki will uncover the area's rich biodiversity, learn about its local wildlife, and connect with the cultural heritage that shapes this extraordinary place. Exclusively for Hualālai Resort employees' children, this fun and educational program is designed to spark curiosity and inspire a deep appreciation for the world around them.
Hālau Lamakū signifies “light” or “enlightenment” that evokes learning, knowledge, and understanding. This program will engage young explorers in activities, crafts, games, outdoor exploration, and observation grounded in Hawaiian culture, science, and art. Registration for the 2025 program will open on March 1, 2025 on this page. Deadline to register will be March 31. Late registrations will be added to a waitlist. Parents will be notified the first week of May.
Each year, the Hualalai 'Ohana Foundation partners with 'Imiloa Center and the College of Hawaiian Language at UH Hilo to bring summer enrichment programming to West Hawai'i families through the Halau Lamaku program. This program is held at Kalaemano Interpretive Center and is supported by Hualalai homeowners to meet the summer gap for busy working families of Hualalai Resort workforce employees.
Hālau Lamakū honors lama, a native dry forest tree that grows in Hawai‘i and nowhere else in the world. Lama signifies “light” or “enlightenment” that evokes learning, knowledge, and understanding. Explorers will engage in activities, crafts, games, outdoor exploration, observation grounded in Hawaiian culture, science, math, engineering, and art.
