2026 Summer Camp Halau Lamaku:

We're back!  The 5th Annual Hālau Lamakū Summer enrichment program invites keiki to embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure to discover the wonders of Kalaemanō!

2026 : Mauka to Makai Explorers is organized and sponsored exclusively for Hualālai Resort employees' children in grades K-5.

Theme: Mauka to Makai Explorers

Supported by the Hualālai ʻOhana Foundation, Hālau Lamakū at Kalaemanō offers a two-week summer learning experience rooted in the Ka'upulehu ahupuaʻa. Through place-based learning, students explore the natural and cultural systems of the Pu‘uwa‘awa‘a ahupuaʻa, building knowledge of geology, native plants, native birds, and loko iʻa, while discovering the connections between land, ocean, and people.

Each day includes hands-on activities, games, crafts, storytelling, collaborative learning, and outdoor play that encourage curiosity, creativity, and joyful exploration. Students engage with the environment and learn about native organisms and traditional practices that help sustain healthy ecosystems. Hālau Lamakū nurtures a sense of kuleana and belonging while strengthening science, literacy, and critical thinking skills, inviting young learners to see themselves as part of a thriving mauka to makai system within Pu'u Wa'awa'a. All activities take place in the Kalaemanō Interpretive Center classroom and surrounding footprint.

Coordinated in partnership with 'Imiloa's Hālau Lamakū Program and the Kalaemano Interpretive Center, this 'aina based summer enrichment camp welcomes keiki who are entering Grades 1 through Grade 6 from 8am to 3pm Monday-Friday for 2 weeks.

2026 PROGRAM EXTENDED to two, 2-week sessions.  Choose from one of two.

Session 1 will be held July 6-17 (24 spots available)

Session 2 will be held July 20-31 (24 spots available)

Offered over two identical weeks, this exciting program blends hands-on activities, creative art projects, and interactive games, all designed to help children explore the unique plants, animals, and cultural traditions that make this part of the island so special. Keiki will uncover the area's rich biodiversity, learn about its local wildlife, and connect with the cultural heritage that shapes this extraordinary place. Exclusively for Hualālai Resort employees' children, this fun and educational program is designed to spark curiosity and inspire a deep appreciation for the world around them.

Hālau Lamakū signifies “light” or “enlightenment” that evokes learning, knowledge, and understanding. This program will engage young explorers in activities, crafts, games, outdoor exploration, and observation grounded in Hawaiian culture, science, and art. Come join us for an adventure you’ll never forget.
